Yarn Swap 18th January in South East London
If your yarn shelves are looking a little… crowded, or you’re itching for fresh inspiration to kick off the new year, we’ve got the perfect excuse to tidy, trade, and treasure-hunt!
With Barge Knitters, we’re hosting the New Year Yarn Destash/Restash on Sunday, 18th January, from 1 to 4 P.M. at The Catford House in SE6.
Newly opened, The Catford House is a pub with social purpose, run by GCDA, a local social enterprise with over 40 years’ experience creating community-led projects across south-east London.
It’ll be a joyful swap event for yarn lovers of all kinds — knitters, crocheters, weavers, latch hookers, embroiderers, menders…
Bring along those leftover balls from past projects, or the yarn you’ve just fallen out of love with. Maybe, it’s exactly what someone else needs for their next masterpiece.
Then, browse a rainbow of new-to-you yarns and crafting items… and grab what sparks new inspiration.
Whether you’re looking to declutter, restock, or simply enjoy the company of fellow yarn enthusiasts, let’s weave a little joy into the start of 2026.
Buy your tickets via Outsavvy.
How it works
It’s simple: bring along good-quality leftover yarn. If you know them, label the weight and fibre content. You’re also welcome to bring any patterns or notions you’d like to pass on.
Drop your items at our tables, then grab a drink and browse donations from other makers. Take what inspires you!
Don’t have anything to swap? Come along anyway — you never know what might spark your next project.
And don’t feel you need to be bang on time. Join us from the start or drop in sometime in the middle, and come and go as you please!
Finally, if you’d like, bring a work-in-progress. There’s no telling how much inspiration and support yarn crafters can bring one another when gathered in a room!
Giving back
All ticket proceeds go directly to Dementia UK, which provides expert support for those impacted by dementia, from the individual to their family and friends. Dementia UK also works to improve dementia care through research and advocacy.
And any materials left unclaimed at the end of the event will be donated to local schools and charities.
Getting there
The event takes place at The Catford House (formerly the Catford Constitutional Club) at Catford Broadway, London SE6 4SP. There’s no dedicated car park, and on-street parking can be busy, so public transport is easiest.
It’s a short walk from Catford Bridge Station (mainline from London Bridge) and Catford Station (mainline from Blackfriars and Victoria).
